Hello Everyone out there :)
I am pleased to meet you all.
I am not new in the list but this is the first time I decide to write,
I am argentine, and writing in english is not as easy as for all of you
guys! :)

I have a small rescue shelter at home (my dogs are all free in the big
yard) and after rescuing them I start looking for a good family to
adopt them. Here, we don't have people that want rescued dogs as in
USA, mostly we are overwhelmed by the ammount of dogs in the streets.

Appart from that, I am starting as a breeder of Affenpinschers, lovely
toy dogs, though yet I have only got my first one , who was bought in
the USA, as here that breed doesn't exist at all .

I liked the question of "what breed is it"? Could I post the same one
with some of my rescued ones?
It would be easier when I put an add to know which are the breeds that
came into that dog, as people here, mostly are willing to know that
detail , and not the dogs character :( :(

Well, dear list members, this will be all for this time. I hope you are
all having a nice day.

Best wishes,

Daniela.

Sure, we all like guessing games, but only one at a time please.
As you know, you can't post pictures here, just a link to those
pictures. Also, try to get a good standing side photograph, as
well as a clear picture of the head. And keep the pictures
small: 100KB or less is usually good enough.

Sure, we all like guessing games,
...and it would also nice if you could list something like 10 or 20 most
popular breeds over there and perhaps a guess about the ratio of purebreds
and mutts/landrace dogs, because that makes guessing much easier. No use to
suggest that you are having a probable "Pharaoh Hound x Hovawart" there, if
there are less than dozen of such dogs in your country.

That is extraordinarily variant. Here, I see a lot of sheep
herding breeds and mixes (especially BC/ACD), yet in other parts
of Canada it's all about Nordic breeds and those mixes.

You're correct, though, and this would be a good place to
compile a list of the Most Popular North American Breeds. (I
see no reason to include mixes because mixes, when identifiable,
result from the breeds about to be tabulated.

Here's my input for my area of western Canada's more common
breeds:

Border Collie
Golden Retriever
Labrador Retriever
Australian Cattle Dog
Australian Shepherd

For mixes, in the U.S., you have to look not just at the really popular
breeds (Labs, Goldens, etc.) but at the breeds popular with the type of
people who are not terribly responsible pet owners.

Pit bulls
Pit bulls
Pit bulls
Rottweiler
German Shepherd
Hound/Beagle
Border Collie
Chow
American Cocker Spaniel

Then factor in regional variations (climate, terrain, recreational habits,

such a shame. in one breath you tell of how hard it is to find homes
and that you are overwhelmed with dogs on the street and in an other
you say you would like to add to the canine population.

please rethink your decision to breed.

Thanks to those of you who put in a small welcome! I truly appreciate
it

And to Dally girl, first, hi, how are you?
Then, and responding to your mail, I can tell you that in a way you are
right, but the problem hereare not breeders, but unconcious owners of
not pure breed dogs and the other factor is poverty.
You won't find an affenpinsher or a yorki, or a whipet on the
streets... you will be able to find mixes of mixes of mixes. I guess
that the main problem here is that there are some legislations for
breeders, but none for owners or even dogs shelters or dog tenancy
(excuse my poor english please)

We have lots of mixes down here, as there is not a law for either
neutering or castration. Only a few small towns in some isolated
provinces are with that now, and owners are very reluctant to castrate.
Mostly you will hear the comment that "males shouldn't be nurtured, or
castrated ever, and females should at least have their first breed and
then be castrated".
Usually ashtray dogs, are mixes of mixes. Many of them ,as one of you
asked beforehand, a cross between german shepherd, and doberman, and
what ever you can think of.
THere are not Pharaons here, lebrels are not so popular, but lots lots
of doberman, rott, sheperds, labrador, poodles, and terriers, including
the bull terrier, you can find almost every breed here. Except for some
new ones or very sophisticated ones.
Argentina has yet very big fields where you can have a breed developed
healthy and strong, if they need for space to run.

Street dogs are another kind of problem, mainly attached to people's
poverty. It is usual to find a family with 10 kids and 4 dogs for
example, kids that go to beg from shop to shop, and dogs following
those kids.
So, what protectors try to do, is , in first place

I guess that to discuss what comes in between street dogs, and breed
dogs, is quite hard in 2 lines. Dally to answer to your question, yes,
I did consider that, and as on one hand I attend a shelter, with no
finnancial aid than my own, and not askig anything from anybody, on the
other hand, I would like to have the pleasure, and satisfaction to
start with a very good breed, which won't be bought by everyone as it
doesn't exist and its still an expensive breed, and very controlled.
If I would decide to breed doberman, well yes , that wouldn't be
wise, cause there are even some not certificate breeders, who sell dogs
withoug any FCA (AKC) papers.
I guess that the difference is if you breed as a commercial issue
only, if you breed thinking in the genetic part of a breed, or if you
do it very conciously.
Way of dealing with things here, is not the same as up there. So,
thanks for the "SUCH A SHAME" but I am not ashamed, in fact I wish that
more breeders around here, would do, as I do, wich is to take dogs (or
cats) from the streets, nurture them, and give them in that way, so
that street dogs troubles can one day begin to decrease, and also get
into organizations to install a castration law, and good tenancy law,
fighting against governments who give a fig about dogs or animals life.

Hugs, and a good day to everyone,

Nothing is stopping you -- questions like that (breed indentification) are
obviously on-topic in the newsgroup, as long as you don't attach binary
images to your posts. You can, however, posts *links* to images of your
dogs.

As long as you're aware that guesses, even the most educated ones, when it
comes to indentifying a dog's ancestry without a paper trail, are still
only guesses.

Once again, this is a newsgroup, not a list, and the newsgroup is
unmoderated -- there are no official "members". You have posted here, so
you are now a contributor. :-)
